The Town of Rosemere invites Rosemere residents to a citizen information session regarding the community center relocation project, which aims to meet the growing needs of seniors and families, add non-market housing for seniors and revitalize the village core. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Community Centre located at 202 Grande-Côte Road.

What will be presented 

The process that led the Town Council to select this project, the needs it addresses, the current guidelines for the future community center, mobility in the sector, the desired village dynamism, housing for seniors as well as the next steps. A discussion and Q&A period will follow the presentation.  Please keep in mind that we are only at the very beginning. 

Background 

On July 6, 2026, the Town Council adopted the Housing Policy "Vivre, s’épanouir et rester à Rosemère, 2026-2046" (Living, Thriving, and Staying in Rosemere, 2026-2046). In its July 7 press release, the Town announced that the community centre would be relocated to the village core, near the library. The property at 327 Grande-Côte Road, located between the Recreational house and the municipal library, was acquired for $1,400,000, authorized by a council resolution on August 17, 2026. The demolition request filed by the Town targets the house located there, in order to allow for the safe use of the site adjacent to the Recreational grounds. 

The current site of the community center is eventually intended to accommodate non-market housing for seniors, in accordance with the resolution adopted by the council on September 14, 2026. In the meantime, the Memorial Community Centre will remain open and accessible to the public so that current activities can continue. 

Only the house at 327 Grande-Côte Road is subject to the demolition request; the Recreational house is not targeted. The Town wishes to proceed with a deconstruction of the building in compliance with its environmental values. 

Postponement of the Demolition Committee meeting 

In order for the information evening to take place first, the demolition committee meeting scheduled for September 28, 2026, is postponed to Monday, October 19, 2026 at 7 p.m. The demolition committee is a regulatory step that concerns the demolition of the building, not the project as a whole. The procedures for filing an opposition are specified in the public notice. Questions regarding the community centre relocation project and the non-market senior housing project will be discussed at the October 6 evening.
