OIL TANK REMOVAL
Did you know that a residential oil heating system generates approximately 3 to 7 tons of CO2 per year, compared with only 26 kg of CO2 equivalent in a home heated with electricity? A staggering difference! To reduce its ecological footprint, the Town of Rosemère is committed to taking concrete action to combat and adapt to climate change.
To this end, the Town will soon be adopting a new by-law, 979, to encourage the removal of oil tanks throughout its territory.
Effective January 1, 2024, this by-law will impose a tax of $125 for each oil tank in the residential sector. This tax will increase by $25 per year, reaching a maximum of $200 in 2027.
A grant will be offered to homeowners who remove their tank, even if their system is non-functional or unused. These homeowners may also be eligible for other financial assistance offered by the Quebec government, such as that offered under the Chauffez vert program.
