Firefighters for a Day: An Exciting Opportunity for 17 Lucky Young People

On September 29, 13 students from Blainville and four from Rosemère were treated to an unforgettable experience as they became firefighters for a day and discovered what the job involves in practical terms.

Through a series of hands-on educational activities led by members of the firefighting and prevention teams, the young participants gained valuable insight into fire prevention and emergency response practices.

Proudly decked out in official uniforms, they found out how to prevent fires, how turnout gear and breathing apparatuses work, and how to search for victims. They even had the chance to use an extinguisher and practise putting out an actual fire while learning how to respond safely in such a situation.

They also explored the available career opportunities in this field, toured the vehicles, handled specialized equipment and developed a better understanding of the vital role firefighters play in the community.

Eligibility to enter the contest to become firefighters for a day was open exclusively to Grade 3 students at schools in Blainville and Rosemère.

The four Rosemère students selected to represent their schools this year were:

  • Victoria Lalonde
  • Julianne Lavoie
  • Annabelle Marcotte
  • Emily Tibulschi
