First Municipal Circonflexe Mobile Unit Launches in the Laurentians to Promote Local Physical Activity
As part of the province-wide Circonflexe – Prêt-pour-bouger initiative, the municipalities of Blainville, Boisbriand, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines and Rosemère, with the support of Loisirs Laurentides, today announced the launch of a mobile sports and recreational equipment loan service.
The mobile unit will provide residents of the four partner municipalities with free access to balance bikes, snowshoes, pétanque sets, disc golf sets, fat bikes, kick scooters, yoga mats and more.
“This project is the result of an outstanding collaborative effort by our four communities,” said Rosemère Mayor Marie-Elaine Pitre. “By joining forces, we can offer our residents expanded access, free of charge, to a wide variety of equipment, thereby promoting an active and inclusive lifestyle. This mobile unit shows just how much we can achieve when we work together to meet the needs of the people we serve.”
“Circonflexe is an innovative initiative that relies on close collaboration between Loisirs Laurentides and its partners and suppliers to implement the concept at the regional level. It requires flexibility and versatility from everyone involved,” said Élaine Lauzon, the organization’s Executive Director. “The launch of each point of service has been met with great enthusiasm. Today, I would like to thank Blainville, Boisbriand, Rosemère and Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines for believing in Circonflexe, for supporting its public rollout and for contributing to its implementation. The fact that this is the first launch of a mobile unit within an MRC is significant for us. It demonstrates that collaboration is essential in ensuring that as many people as possible can benefit from a shared initiative of this nature in a thoughtful, responsible and cost-efficient way.”
In 2023, the Gouvernement du Québec (Ministère de l’Éducation) mandated regional sports and recreation units (URLSs) and their partners to implement and oversee the Circonflexe –Prêt-pour-bouger project throughout the province. Loisirs Laurentides is the organization tasked with coordinating this project in the Laurentians.
Overseen by the Réseau des Unités régionales de loisir et de sport du Québec, Circonflexe is a province-wide initiative aimed at increasing access to sports, recreational and adaptive equipment in order to create more opportunities for physical activity. The free items available to borrow through the program are safe and designed to last.
