Work Without a Permit: IT IS NOT PERMITTED

Remember that all work involving the construction or installation of a garage, shed, fence, pool, spa, etc. as well as the construction of a driveway or any interior or exterior renovation to a building, requires a municipal permit obtained prior to the start of the work. This permit is issued by the Urban Planning, Permits and Inspections Department.

Whether yours is a small or major project, you can expect to wait three weeks for a permit, once all documents have been provided. Despite the addition of personnel during the summer season, this timeframe results from the need to conduct a thorough analysis of the many applications we receive.

Fines and more
You should know that those who fail to obtain a permit face fines ranging from $250 to $1,000 for an individual and from $400 to $2,000 for a company, without notice. In addition, they could ultimately be required to tear down work already completed if it fails to comply with established standards.

These penalties far outweigh the cost of a permit, which ranges from $40 to $50 (depending on the work). An ounce of prevention…!
