Preventing heat stroke

The Town of Rosemère would like to remind you of some advice from the Quebec government in the event of extreme heat:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, without waiting until you feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic or sugary drinks.
  • Take cool showers or baths or go for a swim in a pool.
  • Reduce your physical activity.
  • Apply cold, damp cloths to your body.
  • Close windows, curtains, and blinds during the day and ventilate your home when it is cooler.
  • Spend a few hours a day in an air-conditioned or shaded area.

The elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and children are more vulnerable to heat.  Don't hesitate to check on them, visit them, or invite them over if you have air conditioning.

If you or a loved one's health condition worsens, or if you or a loved one are vulnerable to heat, contact Info-Santé 811 for an assessment and recommendations. In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.
